On the final day of Pope Francis' lying in state, thousands of mourners gathered at St.

Peter’s Basilica to bid farewell to the beloved pontiff, who passed away on Monday at the age of 88 following a stroke.

The Vatican reported that over 120,000 people had already paid their respects, filing past the pope's open coffin, adorned in red papal robes with his bishop’s mitre and rosary in hand.

Due to the overwhelming turnout, the Vatican extended visiting hours, keeping the basilica open until 3 a.m.
